InVideo: Another reason I have a love-hate relationship with artificial intelligence
BlackTechLogy: With a one-line request, you can create your own AI video for social media in minutes
Artificial intelligence is both a gift and a curse for content creators. As someone who has hit a couple of rough patches with graphic designers, specifically when it comes to diversity, it’s a welcome relief to be able to use AI-generated images like Pixlr’s AI Image Generator. I can spend hours or minutes choosing all the African-American imagery I want to instead of hoping at least one token black woman or man would show up in a photo gallery (or final magazine spread).
At the same time, AI-generated images also make me think of amazing graphic designers who I’ve worked with to finalize magazine covers — and who did a great job of showcasing multiculturalism in print and online. Is AI getting in their way? While I can do a little of this and that on photo-editing software programs, I am not a graphic designer. And sometimes you just need a human being to take over.
The same energy applies to video-editing software. I’ve created multiple videos over the years — from my early beginner days as a jazz concert volunteer to professional interviews to stalking my dog whenever she does something cute. Still, I hesitate to call myself a professional video editor as much as I shy away from saying I’m a professional graphic designer. I own the titles “journalist,” “writer,” “editor” and “fact checker.” I even stand 10 toes down about being called a “painter.” The rest? Meh.
I know enough to get by. And this is why I both love and loathe AI; it makes me worry about putting experts out of a job and I’m ecstatic about the convenience, creativity and simplicity involved in making these skills accessible to more people.
Now here comes InVideo. I can’t even fake like I’m not impressed by the video creation software.

For the past month, I’d been planning to write a post about the pros and cons I experienced while using keyless deadbolt entry locks. I knew I was going to include my favorite do-it-yourself creator Glen’s keyless entry installation video and his hide-your-key hack with a prescription bottle. But I wanted an additional video that focused less on installation and more on the basics of keyless locks.
I signed up for InVideo and typed in “pros and cons of keyless locks.” In less than five minutes, this was the video I got FOR FREE!

It handled all of the basics I needed with just one request. Of course, there are way more perks with paid versions (ranging from $20 to $48 for 50-200 minutes per month of video footage plus photos). And considering how adamant I am about diversity in video and photo footage, having more flexibility with the lock tutorial wouldn’t been nice.
I also decided to try something completely different: my love for morning pilates, weight training and dance fitness. My AI video instructions for InVideo were to highlight the perks of Kukuwa Fitness, three of my favorite dance video instructors. This is what I got.
