Why are pre-teens getting better gun safety training than ICE?
Michigan 11-year-old dismantles gun at school to avoid potential shooting while gun of ICE member clumsily falls out during a migrant arrest

Writer’s note: This post was scheduled to be released on Wednesday, October 1, but I learned about the 40-year-old man who drove a vehicle through the front doors of a Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building today in Grand Blanc, Michigan, before opening fire. Like I said, this is exactly why I will always be in support of stricter gun policies.
Last year, there were a reported 16,725 deaths from gun violence. And although one rapper — who epitomizes why hoteps are loathsome people — told me I have a “slave mentality” when it comes to gun control, my views on guns remain the same.
I have zero issues with former Vice President Kamala Harris admitting she’s a gun owner. Same goes for House Rep. Jasmine Crockett. (Yes, Black women own guns and know how to use them, and that doesn’t mean they’re “conservative light.”) I’ve also been to a gun range and learned how to operate a weapon. That doesn’t make me any less supportive of gun control, primarily because of the first sentence in this post.

Everybody who can own a gun doesn’t mean they should own a gun. Look no further than an ICE member who was supposed to be arresting an undocumented immigrant. Not only did he not seem to be able to walk on his own shoes without fumbling around like a drunk, but his own gun fell off his person and landed on the back of the migrant he was arresting.
This chaotic video looked like a comical ‘80s sheriff sitcom that my mother might watch on MeTV. But this was no comedy show nor was it funny. This is an actual person who could barely handle his weapon, and it looks like the clip fell out of the bottom of his gun. This whole scene could’ve led to someone accidentally getting shot, especially after he aimed the gun at a growing crowd.
NRA, here’s your zillionth chance to prove you’re not racist
Last year, there were approximately 5,207 minors killed by gun-related deaths. This year alone, as of September 23, there have been 53 school shootings in the United States. Meanwhile, an 11-year-old Black student from Dwight Rich School of the Arts in Lansing, Michigan, was expelled and refused by four more schools. What did he do? He dismantled a gun that an unidentified student gave him and threw the bullets in the trash can, according to NBC News.
The National Rifle Association and the GOP in general loves to bring up the Second Amendment and to remind people about hunting hobbies. The same groups failed to come to the rescue of licensed gun owner Philando Castile before he was shot by a police officer. Here’s their chance again to defend this pre-teen. Sakir Everett was expelled for dismantling a weapon, which means no one could be harmed after this unidentified student gave the gun to him (for reasons unknown).

Even after “a thorough investigation, including review of video evidence, numerous witness statements, and careful deliberation, as well as a disciplinary hearing” from the Lansing School District, this 11-year-old boy was still punished. Everett was savvy enough to know how to operate a weapon because of hunting lessons and gun safety tips from his godfather. Regardless of him dismantling and hiding the gun parts, he’s somehow being treated like he was a school shooter. And I can’t wrap my mind around why the Second Amendment fanatics aren’t stepping in to help. Actually, that’s a lie. I know exactly why they’re not stepping in to help: Everett is not the correct complexion.

This is yet another reason to back up why I’m so supportive of gun control. While there are aggravating people who seem to think anybody Black who agrees with enforcing gun control has a “slave mentality,” I’m not delusional enough to believe that every group is treated equally with that same right to bear arms.
